I stepped out of the car and breathed in the yummy rain smell. *side note* I love shooting the day after it really rains..there's still some residual clouds, the light is delicious and soft, and of course, the air is full of that delectable rain smell. wish I could bottle it up. the only pickle [sometimes] is wet grass, but of course, that's what we love photoshop for -- just a little patch here and there, and bam. wet jeans no more. *end of side note*
So I breathe in the yummy leftover rain. And while it was a perfect day for shooting, I had this sudden feeling of inadequacy. You see, this family drove out from California to have me do their pictures. Of course, they weren't out here *just* for pictures, visiting friends and all, but this feeling just rushed over me as I waited for their arrival. What if their pictures weren't everything that they hoped for? Its not like we could just re-shoot..but once they arrived, their bright smiles and welcoming hearts eased me like the pacifier eased my son. And we hung out like we knew each other for years-- I ran around with their oldest like I'd run around with my best friends daughter. We laughed like I'd laugh with great friends. It was wonderfully comfortable. And so fun. They were beautifully transparent and let me in. THAT made for ultra fab photos. Now if only they lived a little closer so we could grab dinner together...THAT too, would be ultra fab.
I melted when I saw this little babe. doesn't she have the most amazing blue eyes?!?
love this one..
this is one of those photos that I just want to jump into..everything about it, the gray sky, the oranges fresh and ready to be picked, the fallen leaves, the farm feel, and of course, a sweet little girl...
one of my most favorite family pictures ever.
we took a little snack break, but these two shots ended up being some of my very favorites of the day.
Serena really just has one of the best smiles. ever.
Serena mentioned that her little girl was turning one within weeks after the shoot, so I thought to myself, what better way to commemorate her big day than with a pretty pink cupcake. We didn't discuss it before hand, I just showed up with two pretty, little (kinda big) cupcakes, and what to my pleasant surprise did mom bring? but a beautifully matching pink and brown polka dot dress. perfection.
this was her first cupcake ever..
and without *any* hesitation...
getting every last bite...
i love how she seriously just *tore* this cupcake apart..
While we were cleaning up the cupcake mess off the sidewalk, I glanced over and saw daddy doing this with his girl..I *so* want a dress that balloons out like this. And to be small enough for someone to lift me up to MAKE the dress balloon out. magical.
and since cupcakes aren't JUST for birthday girls...
loved how particular and careful she was about how to take that first bite.
happy friday, my friends. hope you have a delicious weekend.
And to Serena, Waylon, and your beautiful kiddos, thank you *SO* much for driving all the way out to AZ for me to have the fabulous privilege of photographing your family. Thank you for being so comfortable and fun in front of the camera -- and for calming me down even if you didn't realize that I was a little nervous. I love the dynamic your family has -- your love for each other really shines and it was almost impossible for me not to grab it. Thank you again. so much. love, ashley.
